The Storm Tossed Boats Like They Were Toys

This photo not only shows a totally obliterated sailboat, no mast, no sails, no above deck cabin, the hull gouged, but the cliff behind totally denuded, all the foliage which would have been dense jungle, completely stripped away. The passage between Union and Carriacou, February, 2025.

Here’s a boat deposited well up onto shore on the approach to Clifton Harbor, Union. February, 2025

A boat destroyed, its remains on a reef at the entrance to Tyrrel Bay, Carriacou, March, 2025.

Tyrrel Bay, Carriacou’s wide and traditionally safe-from-storms anchorage turned into a boat graveyard during Beryl. As you can see, the monohull in the foreground lost much of its above decks rigging and equipment as well as receiving major blows to its hull. Behind it, the catamaran is typical of mud covered and clogged boats that sought refuge in the mangroves that border Tyrrel Bay only to be battered and partially or totally sunk. February, 2025.

A view from the rebuilt Last Bar Before the Jungle at its new neighbor, a huge boat deposited up on the shore of tiny Salt Whistle Bay, Mayreau, Feburary, 2025. In a coming post, I’ll describe the newly rebuilt bar.
